"1984" by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a totalitarian society ruled by Big Brother and the Party, where surveillance, propaganda, and thought control dominate. The protagonist, Winston Smith, works at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history to fit the Party's narrative. He secretly despises the regime and begins a forbidden love affair with Julia, seeking freedom and truth. However, they are eventually caught by the Thought Police, tortured, and brainwashed into absolute loyalty to Big Brother. The novel explores themes of oppression, loss of individuality, and the dangers of authoritarian rule.
